Hey My Crocheters!
Last week I discussed increasing in the round. There are times to increase or decrease in rows. Increasing and decreasing is used to shape items.
Increasing. To increase in crochet you perform the stitch twice into the same stitch. This is the most common. However, the increase could be more than twice into the same stitch. For even shaping it is good to add a stitch at both the beginning and end of a row. This will keep the increases on the ends.
Decreasing. To decrease you are combining stitches to make multiple stitches into one. This can be done using the invisible decrease which is where you insert your hook into the next stitch being worked and immediately into the next stitch and performing the stitch being performed. Another decreasing method is stitches together which will be denoted in a pattern as 'tog' This is where you collect incomplete stitches on your hook for as many stitches as called for and then completing the stitch as one. For example, 2 Double Crochet together (Dctog) will be making two half double crochets over two stitches to complete as one top V. This will result in a decrease in the row.
I hope this was helpful and happy hooking!
