All About Treble Crochet

Hey there!

I just posted a tutorial on how to do the front and back post treble crochet stitch on my YouTube. You can also find my other treble stitch tutorials on my channel. Check them out! It’s a fun way to add texture to your projects and even add ridges and cabling too. I used both front and back post in a lanyard and it came out great!

So I want to talk about the treble stitch. It is a basic stitch that is bigger than a double crochet. So it works up quickly. If you look at the stitch construction it almost looks like three single crochets stacked on top of each other. That’s not all though. There is a double and a triple treble stitch. Each time you are yarning over an additional time! I find it crazy that is the case. Those stitches are tall and loose. I do not know if loose is the right word but they are voluminous stitches!

I also find it interesting that we do not have a half treble crochet stitch is US terms. You would think that it would be a lot like the half double crochet stitch where you would yarn over twice, insert hook, yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through two, and then yarn over and pull though the last three loops. I think it should be a stitch however, it is not recognized as a basic stitch existing in US crochet terms. It does exist in UK crochet terms but is equal to the US half double crochet stitch.

I really hope you found this interesting and feel compelled to try out all the treble stitches. Happy hooking!
