Cartwheel Purse Show and Tell

Hi there!
I wanted to talk about my latest pattern, the Cartwheel Purse (check out my YouTube for a model video). This pattern is part of my cosmic collection. It was inspired by the Cartwheel galaxy. The galaxy looks like a cartwheel in the center and I thought the Catherinewheel Stitch was perfect to speak to that imagery.
The yarn I used for this pattern is Lionbrand Landscapes in Apple Orchard. It has greens, purples, blues, and reds. These colors speaks space to me and I love how the colors transition between the rows. On the short panels I just stuck with the simple Half Double Crochet Stitch. It looks very nice and the striping of the yarn carries over beautifully there too. For the bottom I used Single Crochet in the round to create a rectangle.
I lined this bag, added a plastic canvas insert, and added pleather handles. While I hate sewing, I’m very glad that I added these features. The double sided liner gives the bag that extra unique touch that I wanted. I chose a galaxy themed spandex type fabric. I would recommend choosing a fabric that speaks to you and gives you joy to look at. The zipper is a 14” zipper that keeps the bag closed. I had another crocheted bag and I only added a button closure, so when it tipped over things would fall out which was annoying! The plastic canvas is in between the liner since it is double sided. I’m glad I added it because it allows for the purse to keep its rectangular shape. I also like the added structure around my things. It is optional, but I recommend the addition.
I will officially launch the pattern next week and the free version on Thursday. Keep an eye out!
Happy Hooking!
