Cool Color Theory

Writer: Andrea PetersonAndrea Peterson

Hey My Crocheters!

Today’s post is going to be about Cool color theory. The cool colors are often seen as soothing and meditative. The cools colors include blue, green, purple, blue-green, blue-purple, and yellow-green. Let’s look at each color and talk about how they can make us feel.

Blue

Blue is known to be a very relaxing color. It is often associated with the calm sky and running streams. Blue is considered the coolest color in the spectrum.

Green

Green is known to be synonymous with nature. It is associated with health and growth. Green is also thought to have therapeutic effects.

Purple

Purple can be quite complex since it is a mix of blue and red. If the purple has more red it will be warmer and be more stimulating. Whereas, a purple that is dominate in blue gives a feeling of serenity. It is also strongly related to royalty. Interestingly, lavender or mauve can give a wistful or nostalgic feeling.

The tertiary colors also hold many of the same effects as the cool primary and secondary colors. This is true since they contain either blue or green.

Just like the warm colors cool colors are used to convey messages and certain feelings. Cool colors are usually used to create a relaxing environment. That is why spas use blues as a primary hue.

I hope this give more insight into cool colors and how to use them.

Happy Hooking!
