Hey My Crocheters!
Today I wanted to talk about the Waffle Stitch. This is such a fun stitch to work up and use. I am currently making a scarf in this stitch and it is going to be a nice texture and very warm too. Visit my Youtube Channel for the video tutorial of the waffle stitch, double crochet stitch, and front post double crochet. Let's get into the written instructions for the waffle stitch.
The waffle stitch uses two stitches: The Double Crochet stitch and Front Post Double Crochet. The stitch pattern is a repeat of two rows (rows 2 and 3) and the multiple for it is 3 plus 2 for the chain (this means you pick any multiple of 3 for your starting chain and add 2 more to adjust the size of your piece).
To start you will chain a multiple of 3 and add 2 more. For example, chain 26 (24 is a multiple of 3 and add 2 more).
Row 1: In the third chain from the hook you will double crochet. Then you will put in double crochet stitches until the end.
Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as a stitch) and turn your work. In the 2nd double crochet stitch from the hook, [front post double crochet, 2 double crochet stitches in the next 2 stitches] repeat until 2 double crochet stitches remain (the chain 2 from Row 1 does not count as a stitch), in the first double crochet stitch from the end front post double crochet, in the last double crochet stitch place 1 double crochet.
Row 3: Chain 3 (counts as a stitch) and turn. In the 2nd double crochet stitch from the hook place [1 double crochet stitch, front post double crochet around the next 2 stitches] repeat until 2 double crochet stiches remain, double crochet into the last 2 double crochet stitches.
That is all there is to creating the waffle stitch. To continue working the stitch pattern repeats Rows 2 and 3 until you have created a work of art. It is recommended to have the last row of the project end on Row 2 so that it more closely resembles the base of the project.
I hope this was helpful and inspires some amazing projects.
Happy Hooking!
