How To Crochet the Yarn Over Slip Stitch

This week’s tutorial is all about the Yarn Over Slip Stitch. This stitch is very interesting because it is a little taller than a normal slip stitch. It doesn’t lay as flat and creates a nice texture and detail.

Things to know about the Yarn Over Slip Stitch:

  • Yarn over before inserting hook into stitch and pull through two loops.


Abbreviations:

Ch: Chain

Sl St: Sl St

St: Stitch

Yo: Yarn Over


Ch and many as desired. Or work over an existing row.


  1. Yarn over and insert hook into chain or stitch.

  2. Yarn over and pull through two loops to complete stitch.

Continue for as a long as desired.


This stitch proivdes a really interesting texture that would make a lovely detail on any crochet project. Especially, on sweaters, scarves, or hats. I hope this inspires you to keep creating beautiful things.
