How to Popcorn Stitch

Writer: Andrea PetersonAndrea Peterson

The Popcorn stitch is wonderful for creating texture on your crochet project. It is a bulky cluster of stitches that really pop off of your work. It is similar to the bobble stitch except that it uses five whole Double Crochet stitches to make one Popcorn Stitch. Check out my youtube for the video tutorial. This stitch leaves a nice flat back and would be great for any project! I hope you enjoy. Happy Hooking!

In order to create a Popcorn, Stitch you work 5 double crochet stitches into the same stitch, remove hook from working loop, insert hook into the first double crochet, pick up working loop and pull through the first stitch. When working on the wrong side of your work insert the hook from the backside of the first Dc. When working on the right side of you work insert the hook from the frontside of the first Dc. This will keep your popcorn naturally popped forward. You can push the stitch back as well.

Acronyms:

Ch: Chain

Dc: Double Crochet

RS: Right Side

WS: Wrong Side

Chain desired number of chains.

Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook Dc across (Do not count as a stitch).

Row 2: WS row. Turn, Ch 3 (Counts as 1 Dc), [Popcorn stitch, Dc] repeat across and end with 1 Dc.

Repeat row 2 for as long as you need for your project. I would recommend ending your project with a row of Dc to mirror the bottom of the work.
