Hi there! Today’s blog is about the Tunisian Simple Stitch. This is a foundational stitch in Tunisian Crochet. As the name implies it really is simple to work up. When working up in Tunisian Crochet it is a lot like knitting in that you are picking up loops as you go. You also perform a bind off to finish the last row. Another unique feature of this technique are the hooks. You can find long hooks that feature cables. This is because you are limited by the width of your hook for the width of your project. Another fact about this technique is that there is a forward pass and a return pass. The return pass will finish the row. Now let’s talk about the Tunisian Simple Stitch!

To work the Tunisian Simple Stitch you chain as many as you like. For my small sample on my Yourube tutorial I chained 12.

Row 1 (foundation row): work into the second back bump from the hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Repeat working into the back bump and pulling up loops until the end. You will have the same number of loops on your hook as chains.

Row 2 (return pass): Yarn over and pull through one loop on hook, yarn over and pull through two loops until the end with one loop remaining on hook.

Row 3: Insert hook into second horizontal bar, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat inserting hook into horizontal bars until the last bar. At the last bar insert hook into the last bar and the loop directly behind it, yarn over, and pull up a loop.

Row 4: Repeat Row 2 and Row 3 until desired length.

Slip Stitch Bind Off: Insert hook into second horizontal bar from the hook, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook. Repeat inserting hook into horizontal bars and slip stitching until the end. At the end insert at the horizontal bar and the loop directly behind it, yarn over and pull through all three loops.

That’s all there is to it. I hope you found this helpful! Happy hooking!
