Learn How to Crochet the Star Stitch

Hey there!
Today’s stitch tutorial is about the Star Stitch. This is a very beautifully textured stitch that only takes a two row repeat. It becomes a very easy stitch to create once you get the hang of the hook placement.

Things to know about the Star Stitch
It has a multiple of 2
It is a two row repeat
It is best to start and finish with a row of single crochet to add balance
Abbreviations:
Ch: Chain
FStar: First Star Stitch
Hdc: Half Double Crochet
Rep: Repeat
Sc: Single Crochet
Star: Star Stitch
St: Stitch
Yo: Yarn Over
Special Stitches:
First Star stitch:
Chain 3, in the 2nd chain from the hook insert hook and pull up a loop.
Insert hook in the next chain and pull up a loop.
Insert hook in next stitch and pull up a loop.
Insert hook and pull up a loop in the next two stitches (6 loops on hook).
Yarn over and pull through all loops.
Chain 1 to complete first star.
Star Stitch:
Insert hook into chain 1 and pull up a loop.
Insert hook into leg of first Star stitch and pull up a loop.
Insert hook into last worked single crochet stitch and pull up a loop.
Insert hook and pull up a loop in the next two stitches (6 loops on hook).
Yarn over and pull through all loops.
Chain 1 to complete Star stitch.
Ch a multiple of 2.
Row 1: In the 2nd Ch from the hook Sc across, turn.
Row 2: FStar, Star until the last St, Hdc in the last St, turn.
Row 3: Sc in first St, Sc in Star eye, 2 Sc in next Star eye until the last St, Sc in top of turning Ch, turn.
Row 4-5: Rep Row 2-3 until desired length met.
Once you get the hook placement this stitch is very simple. It adds wonderful texture and a thickness to the fabric. This stitch is great for any level of crocheter!
