Hey My Crocheters!
Today’s post is going to be about Neutral color theory. The neutral colors are often seen as a non color. That is not entirely true since the neutral colors can have different tints and shades. The neutral colors include white, black, gray, beige/taupe, and brown. Let’s look at each color and talk about how they can make us feel.
White
Blue is seen to be clean and pure. It is often associated with modern decor themes. It is considered lacking color by many. That is not true however, white doesn’t have to be super white it can have a bit of yellow which warms it is. Think of whipped cream and how delicious that looks and tastes.
Black
Black is a very striking color. It is related to power, discipline, and seriousness. It is a dark color that I would not consider warm. It also shows up in elegant fashion and home designs.
Gray
Gray is the color between white and black. It is associated with an unset area. The “gray area” which isn’t very defined. It is also a non competing color which allows other colors to stand out next to gray.
Brown
Brown is closer to a warm color. Brown is seemingly cozy and warm like woods and leather found in home decor. Brown is also a rich color.
Beige/Taupe
Beige can have different shades and tints too. It can have a warmer or cooler depending on the undertone. Beige is a non competing color that will let other colors stand out.
Just like the warm colors and cool colors neutrals are used to convey messages and certain feelings. Neutral colors are usually used in conjunction with the other colors to make them stand out. Using neutrals and other colors together allow the main color to stand out and be more apparent. The neutrals can also give the main color a warmer or cooler effect.
I hope this give more insight into neutral colors and how to use them.
Happy Hooking!
