Springtime Crochet

Writer: Andrea PetersonAndrea Peterson

Hi there!

Spring is on its way and that means the weather is warming up. Crochet is more associated with Fall and Winter since yarn tends to be made from warm fibers, like wool. However, there are fibers that are perfect for warmer weather. Here are the yarns I like to use for light warmth.

  • Cotton: Cotton is known for its breathability. Since cotton can work up to be heavy it is a great choice for Spring projects. The heaviness of the fiber gives some warmth but it is not the intense warmth that wool can provide.

  • Kid Silk: Even though kid silk is a mixture of wool and silk it is very light. Especially, since kid silk tends to be lace weight any projects worked with this fiber will have a light and airy feel to it. Also, with the mixture of wool and silk the wearable will be nice and warm as well for those slightly chilly Spring Days.

  • Linen/Flax: Linen is known to be very comfortable for warm days. This is a great fiber for those warmer Spring days because of its breathability. Even though linen is associated more with Summer it is still a good fiber for Spring. It is a lighter fiber choice but still retains some warmth.

I love the challenge of thinking of projects for the warmer months since Fall and Winter projects come so much more naturally. I hope this post inspires you to step up to the Spring Crochet Challenge!

Happy Hooking!
