How To Split Single Crochet

Hello all!

This stitch mimics a knit stitch look. Once you go past the foundation row of single crochets the pattern will start to have the ‘v’ look that is common in knit. That is why this stitch is also referred to as the knit stitch. This stitch is also called the waistcoat stitch. To make this stitch you work into the center of the single crochet stitch from the previous row, opposed to working into the top of the stitch from the previous row. That is why it is called the split single crochet, because you are splitting the middle of the stitch from the row below.

Chain desired number of chains.

Row 1: In the 2nd chain from the hook single crochet across.

Row 2: Turn, Ssc into each st.

Repeat row 2 for as long as desired.
