Yarn Packin’ Mama Fiber Suggestions

Hello there!

Today I’m going to talk about different fiber choices and some of my favorites! If you shop American yarn companies you will find an abundance of acrylic and polyester fiber. These man made fibers have there place but there are so many more options out there. I tend to shop Hobbii because they have an amazing selection of natural fibers. I prefer to work with natural fibers because they feel better both spiritually and physically to me. Let’s get into fiber choices!

My number one fave fiber is Alpaca. It is so soft and cozy, yet light and breathable. This fiber is known to be hypoallergenic and a good alternative to wool. It doesn’t have lanolin like wool does. This fiber is good all year round!

My second fave fiber is Silk. It is luxurious and soft. It also has a really nice sheen. This fiber is also light and breathable which is great for warmer months’ projects.

Another fave fiber is Bamboo. This is similar to cotton and it has a good weight to it. The drape of a garment made from bamboo is great. It can tend to feel heavy to but is good for warmer months’ projects too. It is breathable and a sustainable fiber choice.

Then there is the ever amazing Cotton. It is a very versatile fiber that can be used for garments, home decor, and the kitchen. Cotton is perfect for making washcloths and pot holders. It is great for garments too and give a nice drape. My Blackhole Poncho and Headband are made from 100% cotton yarn and they wear really well.

I hope these fiber suggestions give you the confidence to work with a new fiber! Happy hooking!
