Hey My Crocheters!
I wanted to talk about some stretches that every crocheter or knitter should know. It is important to stretch out our muscles since when crocheting we tend to crumple up or sit for hours working on our projects and enjoying our craft time. It is important to remember our bodies are really not meant to sit still for too long. So, let's talk stretches.
Hands and Arms. Some of the stretches that I love to do include wrist stretches. I stretch my wrists in three different angles: up, down, and upside down. I will roll my wrist too clockwise and counterclockwise. It helps to stretch my tendons all the way up to my elbows. It helps to keep my hands, wrists, and forearms pliable and happy. All three start to cramp after a long time of crocheting. I will also stretch my fingers by putting my hands palm to palm and pushing away from each other. It feels really nice.
Neck, Shoulders, and lower body. I will stand after a long time of sitting crocheting and stretch my neck simply by looking up at the ceiling since I spend my time looking down while crocheting. I will also try to touch each of my ears to my shoulders (NO HANDS). I will also stretch my shoulders and triceps. Those become very tense after awhile and it feels great to pull my arms across my chest. For the lower body I will stand and touch my toes. I will do a narrow stance and a wide stance. I will then sit back down and place my ankle on my knee and lean forward to stretch my lower back. I repeat this on the other side. It feels great and keeps my back from going out. I also stretch my feet by raising up to my tiptoes.
These stretches allow me to crochet longer and without pain or discomfort. I really do recommend to remember to stretch and keep tendons and muscles healthy.
I hope this post helps! Happy Hooking!
